SkillsServe 4.8 Release Notes

Overview

We’re pleased to announce that SkillsServe 4.8 launched in mid-January 2014.

What’s new in this version?

Configuration of Column Widths in Reports

Is it a new feature or an upgrade? This is an upgrade to SkillsServe’s reporting system.

How it works… It’s now possible to manually alter the width of columns in reports that are generated within SkillsServe.

Column Width
When creating or editing a report, click on the field whose column width you’d like to alter. The option to change the column width will then become available.

Why is this beneficial? This allows you to remove unused space in a report and therefore make it look tidier and get more information in the display section for generated reports. It’s particularly useful for making reports print out on a single page.

Default or configurable? This is a default feature of all sites on SkillsServe 4.8.

Assessment attempts automatically close when timer runs out

Is it a new feature or an upgrade? This is an upgrade to the way assessments behave in SkillsServe

How it works… Assessments with time limits will now close automatically after the limit runs out, even if a user has closed the browser.

Assessment time limits

Why is this beneficial? Administrators no longer have to force close an attempt if a user does not finish/close an assessment which has a time limit on it.

Default or configurable? This is a default feature of all sites on SkillsServe 4.8.

User Profile Document Import Service

Is it a new feature or an upgrade? This is a new feature in SkillsServe

How it works… Administrators can now upload documents, such as exam results, to user profiles in one go.

Document Import 1
This is achieved by data import; there is the option to choose to import documents to users’ profiles when creating a new Schedule Import.

Why is this beneficial? This is a great time-saving alternative to individually uploading documents to user profiles or asking users to upload the documents themselves.

Default or configurable? The Document Import Service is part of the Data Feed, which is a configurable feature in SkillsServe. Please contact your account manager for more information.

User Profile Document Homepage Portlet (for imported documents)

Is it a new feature or an upgrade? This is a new feature in SkillsServe.

How it works… Documents that are imported to a user’s profile by Data Feed, using the Document Import Service described above, will appear in this portlet.

Why is this beneficial? This allows users to see that documents have been uploaded to their profiles and also shows what’s been uploaded.

Default or configurable? This is a configurable feature for sites on SkillsServe 4.8. Please speak with your account manager for more details.

Images and HTML can be added to activity descriptions

Is it a new feature or an upgrade? This is an upgrade to the details section of activities.

How it works… You are now able to add images and HTML to the descriptions of activities.

Description Editor

You can edit the description of an activity when creating or editing an activity via the Content Manager. The new buttons have been highlighted above.

Activity Description with Image

Why is this beneficial? Greater customisation of the descriptions section allows you to provide users with more course information and helps you to put more of your stamp on activities.

Default or configurable? This is a default feature of all sites on SkillsServe 4.8.

Single Sign-On links from SkillsServe to Remote Websites now contain a Redirect Parameter
Is it a new feature or an upgrade? This is an upgrade to the Single Sign-On feature in SkillsServe.

How it works… SkillsServe’s Single Sign-On now allows for a redirect parameter within a URL. This means you can now go to a specific section within a remote website, rather than just being sent to the homepage of the remote site.

Why is this beneficial? This gives SkillsServe’s Single Sign-On feature more depth and flexibility.

Default or configurable? This is a configurable feature in SkillsServe. Please speak with your account manager for more details.

PDF image quality can now be configured
Is it a new feature or an upgrade? This is an upgrade to the hosting of .pdf files in SkillsServe.

How it works… It’s now possible to configure the image quality in .pdf files in SkillsServe.

Why is this beneficial? This allows for documents, such as Completion Certificates with higher quality images, to be published on SkillsServe.

Default or configurable? This is a configurable feature of all sites on SkillsServe 4.8. Please speak to your account manager for more details.
