SkillsServe Release Notes 5.1

Overview
This release of SkillsServe includes an improvement to the Registration Rules feature of the LMS providing additional options for content management.

Registration rule to filter by employment date

BenefitsThis is an additional option for the Registration Rules feature, there will now be the option to filter users by their Employment Start Date in addition to the existing option to filter by User Created Date.

How it worksThe Employment Start Date can be populated in the User Profile area or via a data feed. Depending upon your organisation’s processes a user may be created on SkillsServe prior to their actual employment start date, or afterwards. A Registration Rule can now be set to filter users By their employment start date rather than just the date they were added to your SkillsServe site.

For example, John Smith may have been added to SkillsServe as a user on the 01/12/2015 but does not start his employment until the 14/12/2015. Prior to this new feature a registration rule may have been set to register all newly created users onto an induction pathway that should be completed within 1 week. John Smith would have arrived at work to find an already overdue learning pathway. With the new feature and registration rule based upon the employment start date, John Smith will arrive at work to find an induction pathway in his activity list and will have 1 week to complete the pathway.







How to get thisThis feature has been released and will be an option when creating registration rules.

SkillsServe Release Notes 5.0

Overview
SkillsServe 5.0 introduces a new 'Find Learning' User Interface as well as improved content management with the new pathway builder and diagnostic assessment features.

New 'Find Learning' User Interface
BenefitsThe 'Find Learning' catalogue area has been completely redesigned to provide a number of improvements, all developed to make it easier for users to search and register for activities and for administrators to manage and allocate content.

How it works

1. The 'Find Learning' and 'Content Manager' features are now combined. Those with the correct level of access can switch between the two features.

2. There is now a 'Basket' feature allowing users to select and add multiple learning activities to their training plan and enabling administrators to more quickly and easily create new pathways and add assessments.

3. The search and filter functionality has been improved, using similar principles as you would find within consumer shopping sites.

4. As well as adding content to a basket, there is also the option to launch the content directly.

5. Tags are now displayed beneath content, these assist with searching for and identifying content that is relevant.

How to get thisThis functionality is currently being rolled out to CII Broker and Insurance Assess customers. It will be rolled out to ComplianceServe, SkillsServe and Financial Assess customers in in 2016. For more details, take a look at our Knowledge Base Guide.


New Pathway Builder
BenefitsThis feature allows administrators to create new learning pathways (formerly programmes) from the content that they add to their 'Basket' This considerably speeds up and simplifies the process of creating bespoke and relevant learning pathways from available content.

How it worksBrowse through your learning catalogue and add each activity title to your basket. Once finished access your basket, finalise and re-order your selection before saving as a new learning pathway. Once you have clicked save you will be taken to the 'Common Tasks' area of your new learning pathway.




How to get thisThis new feature will be rolled out in line with the Find Learning user interface. The Broker/Insurance Assess roll out is already in progress. ComplianceServe, SkillsServe and Financial Assess will follow in 2016. For more details, take a look at our Knowledge Base Guide.


Diagnostic Assessment
BenefitsThis feature allows administrators to automatically generate a diagnostic assessment based upon the content within a learning pathway. Users who successfully complete the diagnostic pre-assessment can be exempted from having to complete the content, thus saving time and increasing productivity whilst still ensuring users are maintaining relevant knowledge.

How it worksContent on SkillsServe can be mapped to question banks (whether provided as part of a subscription package such as ComplianceServe or Assess, or your organisation’s own). This allows for the creation of diagnostic assessments that test a user’s knowledge. If successful a user would be exempt from having to complete the related content. An end of learning pathway assessment can also be created automatically based upon the content and question mapping as well as results from the diagnostic assessment.




How to get thisThis functionality is currently being rolled out in line with the Find Learning user interface and Pathway Builder to Broker/Insurance Assess customers. ComplianceServe, SkillsServe and Financial Assess will follow in 2016. For more details, take a look at our Knowledge Base Guide.

SkillsServe Maintenance

The SkillsServe hosting infrastructure will be undergoing an upgrade on Saturday 26th September 2015 between 22:00 BST and midnight so access to your platform may not be available during this time. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. We try to minimise disruption during maintenance but the nature of this upgrade means some planned downtime is inevitable.

SkillsServe Roadmap Update

What’s new?

We’re always excited to tell you what new features and helpful improvements are on the horizon for SkillsServe, and we thought now was a great time to share what’s coming up next! Before we do that here’s a quick recap of what’s happened since our last roadmap update – our clients, hopefully including you - are already starting to make the most of these new features.
  • Past objectives for performance and T&C forms – a great new time-saving feature giving you the ability to pull in past and continuing objectives, actions or development needs into new forms, helping you keep sight of what’s been achieved and is still outstanding. Find out more.
  • Objective dropdown lists for forms - additional options added allowing managers to be more specific with objective/action status.
  • Branded HTML emails - use SkillsServe to send out professionally branded emails. Find out more.
  • Authenticated login to a third-party site via SkillsServe – simpler and easier integration between different systems. Find out more.
  • ContentServe launched - enables some of our best SkillsServe features and content, including illustrated pathways, eCreator courses, video upload and tracking and reporting to be made available to users on your legacy LMS. ContentServe links directly to the latest version of our off-the-shelf compliance content so you know users are always up-to-date.
  • An even more creative eCreator – now extra user friendly with improved template functionality and options to make your DIY-courses look ever more professional and effective.
  • Weighted marking - instead of a fixed measure of points assigned to correct and incorrect answers, you can now award specific points per type of answer. For example if you want to mark a right answer +3, you can mark a wrong one -1. Find out more.
  • Custom Fields for Organisations - Record additional information about an organisation, and report on this information at organisation level and for anyone belonging to that organisation. This can be used for information like cost centre, renewal dates, additional contact details or anything else you might need to record that you can’t currently. Find out more

That was then, this is NOW…

Over the next couple of months you will see these new features appear within SkillsServe:

Brand New Catalogue & Content Manager with advanced Pathway Builder & Diagnostic Tools

SkillsServe’s new catalogue structure will make it even easier for you to build a new pathway and register yourself or staff onto appropriate learning and assessments. Hopefully most of you will have heard about this already, or even seen it demonstrated? If not we can do that for you.

The new pathway assessments mean you will automatically be able to build assessments based on your pathway content in just two clicks. To identify knowledge gaps within a certain set of courses you can set up a diagnostic assessment - a type of pre-assessment - to highlight learning points, or complete the training if passed. This will help measure improvements in knowledge between taking the diagnostic and assessing the individual after completing the identified learning.

SkillsServe App

The finishing touches are just being applied to our new SkillsServe App, which will give you access to your training plan and eCreator courses through your mobile device, 24/7 whether online or accessing downloaded content to complete offline. We are very excited about the potential and flexibility the new App gives our clients, and the development of SkillsServe into the future as we add new types of content for offline access.




Looking a little bit ahead…

In a perfect world we would be doing everything we want to yesterday! But as everyone knows, there are only 27 hours in a day ;) – so these are some of the projects we’re already looking forward to getting our teeth into over the next few months:

Activity Ratings & Comments

Users will be able to review and rate content allowing other users to see the recommendations and comments when searching content to register for. Administrators will get a better grasp of what content is popular amongst your learners and what could be improved, with all feedback collated in one place. It also means fewer emails to sort through! Bonus!

Languages

We operate in a global marketplace and the demand for multilingual versions of SkillsServe and content is increasing. This year the aim is to integrate no fewer than five different languages into SkillsServe, with the versatility to add more into the future.

SkillsServe App update

Before the new App’s even launched we know how we want to make it even better! This phase of its development is planned to give you the ability to brand your SkillsServe App, make more activities available via the App, and those that will not yet be available should link to the browser so can still be accessed online.

Stargazing….

As if all that isn’t enough to keep us out of trouble, there are a few other things underway later this year too. Here’s a sneak peak of a couple…

Social learning & tutor support

We always want to keep making SkillsServe a more interactive and engaging place for your learners to visit and incorporating social learning is a big part of this. We’re currently conducting some research into the best way to do this and how we can implement the solutions in the most user-friendly and fun way. Watch this space!

Responsive design

Although it feels like our lives are already ruled by mobile devices these are only going to get smarter and even more integral to how the world functions every day. This will make content even easier to access on the move. We want to bring SkillsServe fully up-to-date with the latest responsive methods to ensure SkillsServe is accessible to you on every step of your journey to and from work and at home! SkillsServe 4.35 Release Notes

Overview
Our latest release of SkillsServe enables creating organisation custom fields for capturing and reporting on additional information as needed

Custom Organisation Information Fields
BenefitsThis feature allows for us to add custom information fields at an Organisation level. Previously administrators were able to add these at a person level, but now additional custom information such as cost centres or other details can be recorded and reported on by Organisation.

How it worksNew fields can be added in the site settings and then updated in the organisation additional information tab. Custom fields are available when reporting.

Weighted Marking – Giving you more control

What’s new?

With the release of SkillsServe 4.34 we’ve enhanced the negative marking feature within the assessment section allowing you to configure it to meet your needs.

How does it work?

Instead of having a fixed measure of points assigned to correct and incorrect answers, you can now award specific points per type of answer. For example, if you wanted to give someone 3 points when they answer correctly, you can.

As part of this improvement we’ve tweaked the layout of the sections so that they’re clearly separated making it easier to know what you’re looking at.


Once you choose the option of Weighted Marking from the Scoring Mode section you’ll see that you have a few more options than before. From here you can assign a range of points to each type of answer.


If you want to allow your users the ability to select Don’t Know as an option, you’ll have the option to assign a value to this choice too.


The system will treat any unanswered questions as it would an incorrect answer.

SkillsServe 4.33 Release Notes

A new time-saving feature of SkillsServe

We're proud to introduce a new time-saving feature within the Forms area of SkillsServe, now available for all users.

What’s new?

You can now easily transfer existing items, such as objectives, development needs or actions, from one form to another at the click of a button, which means the days of copying and pasting are gone!

How does it work?

The new feature can be used for all types of forms.
When you're creating a new form and wish to add an item, a button will appear giving you access to previous examples of that item.
In this example using an Appraisal form, the item we want to add is an Objective, so a 'Past Objectives' button appears.
This button pulls through a list of items with the same label (e.g. objectives) used in previous forms for that particular user.
Only the most up-to-date objectives will pull through and you can filter through them in the following ways:
  • search keywords for the item of choice
  • filter by the date the item was last updated/created
  • filter by Due Date
  • filter by Objective Status.
You can expand the brief description displayed in the objective column to discover any further fields that were entered when the objective was created.
Once you’ve chosen the objectives you’d like to pull through, simply select Add Objectives.

You can edit them in the same way as you would when creating a new objective. When you edit a past objective it is saved as the latest version and will be available to select in future forms.

You can, of course, add new objectives into your form alongside the ones you pull in from the past.

Managers can use the drop down menu pictured below to give each objective (or action or development need) a status to chart the employee’s progress throughout the year.
You can update this status at any time but users can only view the status, not edit it themselves.

SkillsServe 4.32 Release Notes

We’re pleased to announce SkillsServe 4.32 launched in January 2015.


What’s new in this version?

Authenticated login to a third party site via SkillsServe

Benefits Users can now access third party services via SkillsServe using SAML for Outbound Single Sign On. This means that SkillsServe can be a gateway to other systems that implement SAML.
How it works SkillsServe works with the third party site to authenticate users using the SAML protocol to allow them quick and easy access without separate user names and passwords.

The external link can be displayed in a variety of ways. For example, a portlet on the homepage or a link in a public wiki space or even in a piece of induction training made with the eCreator.
